'been a while

Greetings followers,

Studio has been pretty quiet lately. Kristen and I have been busy doing logo and business card work. Lots of little things here and there as we prepared our ThreeHouse website, which is now finished!

http://www.three-house.com

Kristen and I have also decided to put some things up for sale on Etsy. We screen print our own stationary, tote bags, and posters. We're thinking some people might be interested in some of the cards we put together. Who knows? I will update with that link as soon as we have that put together.

Here's a few logos that were rejected by clients. I ended up liking them, but meh, win some, you lose some. Anyone looking for logo work ?

This is also a tshirt design I submitted to Threadless. I don't think it is going to be printed but it was definitely a blast to illustrate it. I'll never know the secret to getting printed on that site, hah.

enjoy!

Illustration printed in Trailrunner August Issue!

It's still absolutely amazing to see your work printed in a magazine with your little named next to the "Illustration:" part of the article. I am so thankful that I receive opportunities to do professional work. Thanks to Jeremy C for tossing me the opportunities.

Hope you guys like it!

Hey all

Haven't updated in a little while, but it feels great to do again. Threehouse just finished up a couple of projects, doing two pieces for a huge Christian conference in L.A. California. The pieces were done in two ways: cut paper animation / and motion graphics. The cut paper project came out absolutely amazing. We really liked the final product even though it felt very thrown together initially, setting up the shooting station, printing out a ton of images, tearing up random paper... etc. However in the end we are very proud to call it finish and we'll be putting on the new motion reel we have been working on.

I also put together this poster for Chris Bohatyritz' birthday at the beginning of June. I thought of this idea awhile back and never new what to use it for until his birthday came up. So I hope he likes it, even though it is kind of goofy receiving a poster of your name on it for a birthday present.

Here is also the final image of the Trailrunner piece. I am about to start another one as well. (wow do months really go by that fast ? )

Back from South Africa!

What an incredible experience. I am so blessed to visit the townships in South Africa and preach the Gospel. The people we met there were so amazing along with my South Africa team. We really came together this trip as friends and brothers and sisters in Christ. I brought a ton of drawing supplies on the trip and hardly drew at all being so busy everyday. I managed to draw some before the trip and I thought I would show whoever reads this blog what I have been doing. This photo was taken by Sean Prestidge and I am really excited to see where his photography takes him. He really has been working hard and it's great to see him grow. Looking forward to First Fridays tonight and seeing new work. Good to be back!

Surrounded by Goodness.

This week has been amazing, good grief. I absolutely love the friends I have in my life and feel so blessed to have them. Kristen finished a painting that she has been working on today. Holy cow it is gorgeous, I'm so proud of her. I also finished the illustration yesterday and the Museum animation job also might be done? Who knows. Today was really relaxing finishing a lot of odds and ends we had sitting around in the studio. Kristen and I have been challenging each other to daily drawing, and ideas. This Saturday we have a caricature gig for an after prom party. Should be a lot of fun, should brush off my caricature skills. Are they still there? Yes, yes they are.

Here's a little shot of the illustration, and a little cowboy guy I'm working on. !

New Illustration!

Hey everybody!

Kristen and I are getting psyched about South Africa. We are about 12 days away from heading out of the country. We are witnessing some amazing things happening before even heading down to Cape town. Completely glorious. Kristen and I have been busy working to finish an animation for a Museum project with Eisterhold Associates. The guys over there are super nice and a lot of fun to get to know personally. I can't show you the rest of this illustration because it's not out on the stands yet, but I'm really excited about this one, trying new things. (i hope).

I've also been stripping Kristen's bike to put a new coat of paint on it. Holy cow what an endeavor, but definitely worth it. I finally finished stripping the paint using this stuff called "aircraft paint remover" that is a paint on product. SUPER TOXIC, oh my goodness, if just a little bit hits your skin, you are running to the bathroom to clean it off. So last night I primed the first coat and tonight we'll actually give it a first coat of the color she wants.

Kristen and I have also been attending a literacy teaching program that trains us to be tutors. We've decided to volunteer for the Westport High school as tutors teaching reading to students who want to know how. It's a huge commitment but we are really excited about helping out kids in our community. Good times!

Honeymooning in Italy!

Hey all,

Kristen and I returned last night from a crazy day of traveling. We left our hotel in Rome at 9 am, got to the Leonardo da Vinci airport via taxi, flew out at 11:15, 9.5 hours later plus a 6 hour time change arrive in Philadelphia at 3 pm. 5 hour lay-over later we board our plane and fly into Kansas City arriving at 10 pm. Holy cow it felt like forever but we are safe and sound dodging the earthquakes and jet lag.

Italy was absolutely amazing, what a crazy old country. The people there are really fun wearing tight jeans, huge sunglasses, scarves and cigarettes. Oh the cigarettes. I loved Florence and the Gondola ride in Venice. What a beautiful city, very ancient and hillarious.

Here's two photos of Kristen and I. Two of them that I thought I didn't look to ugly. Enjoy.

Are we there yet ?

Just a week away, really excited. We had a final walk-through at the Art's Incubator today to finalize all last minute details of the space. Kristen and I finished up a lot of wedding stuff this weekend, buying ties / shoes / and other little things. This is just a another sketchbook page, always focusing on weird heads and this next page was a collection of VW cars. I thought it would be fun to dedicate different pages in my book to different things like typewriters / cameras / you know cliche hip things of today. They're still fun to draw being very technique and full of detail. Drawing will always be one of my favorite past times, besides working on bikes with friends. Here's my new refurbished bike. It's a Schwinn bike, that had this horrible white paintjob that had tons of scratches and wear and tear. I've always wanted to strip down a bike and re-paint. Finally had the chance to do so and followed through! I got some compliments on the paint jobs from a few hipsters calling it a "rattle-canner." (spray paint bike). Pretty excited. I've always included part of my Optimus Prime Halloween costume process photo back in October. I've just found all those images and it was fun to see what it looked like while I was working on. Holy crap that was a lot of fun. Hope everyone enjoys.

10 days away till the big day!

So excited!!

Kristen and I are busy working on an animation project with Eisterhold Associates. Doing animation for a museum project that is very cool! Those guys are very wonderful people and great to have conversation with. Last night a group of people from the Boiler Room went out to Westport during St. Patrick's Day madness to pray for people in need and general blessings over their lives. It was completely amazing and we witnessed some crazy things happen last night. Thanks for everyone who voted on my Threadless submission, was expecting a higher score but that's the way things go with that kind of community. Looking forward to the wedding and seeing everyone there.

Some sketchbook pages for fun.

New Threadless Submission

Hey guys, just uploading a new submission to Threadless.com.  I don't get to interact with that website too much but every once in awhile I think I have a t-shirt design that fits with the site.  Who knows, it's fun to do and I enjoy reading what people have to say about the work itself.  Wedding planning is going along pretty well as Kristen and I are finishing up all the last minute details.  I have been working on my bike giving it a new paint job, it looks absolutely incredible.  Thanks to Chris Bo, at the arts incubator of course.  Looks like Threehouse website is going to be coming out soon as Jeremy Collins is checking with a website team, so expect to see that soon as well as a new showreel.  So thanks for reading and hopefully you'll vote on the threadless!

Screen Printed Stationary

I just finished screen printing the first set of stationary for the "Art for Africa" event.  This is the design I decided to print on our Gocco and they look absolutely wonderful.  I'll scan them in and post once dry.  I should also take this time to plug the "Art for Africa" event on March 7th at the Kansas City Boiler Room.  There will be refreshments, silent auction.. etc.  Plenty of good stuff for people to buy and view.  Kristen and I are really excited to sell the tote bags/ stationary / books.  Feel free to come out and socialize.

Finished Lion

I think this is the coloring technique I want to use for the lion illustration. I'm satisfied with the simplicity and the color palette.  Expect to see this on tote bags VERY soon.  We're going to be screen printing them ourselves.  I found some really great blank tote bags at wholesale price.  Kristen and I have been looking for apartments, and we found this little cozy duplex in a house that I think is the one right next door to some really great friends.  We're very excited.  Expect to see stationary designs for Africa very soon on here.

Tote bags for Africa, Illustration.

For this year's Africa trip I have decided to contribute a tote bag design.  That way the money people spend on the tote bags will go directly to the group of people traveling to Africa this May.  Hopefully this a fun way people can give money and get some fun in return.

This is part of the drawing for the tote bag design.  There will be other things along with the lion and have will have a more finished look in the end.

New Year, new post!

Hello all,

Just updating with some illustration work I just completed last week.

Only a month away till the wedding, crazy!
